Call for Contributions will be released 20th August 2026!

The CIE is the leading global organisation for collaboration and information exchange on light, lighting, colour, vision, photobiology, and image technology. The three-day Scientific Conference will accept abstracts across the full scope of the CIE Divisions:

  • Vision and Colour
  • Physical Measurement of Light and Radiation
  • Interior Environment and Lighting Design
  • Transportation and Exterior Applications
  • Photobiology and Photochemistry
  • Image Technology

In addition to the broad range of topics covered by the CIE Divisions, contributions are particularly encouraged in current, future and emerging topics, such as:

  • Individualisation of colour matching
  • Benefits of specific wavebands of optical radiation
  • Integration of digital tools and methods in lighting design
  • Daylighting and view out
  • Advances in glare models and glare metrics
  • Inclusive lighting
  • Precision agriculture, smart horticulture and aquaculture
  • Healthy and medical lighting
  • Image-based optical characterisation of materials and material appearance
  • Promotion of good science and scientific methods

Contributions from neighbouring fields and emerging communities are also welcome, provided that they connect to the topics and work of the CIE Divisions.

Important Dates

  • 20 August, 2026: Call for Contributions gets published, submission system opens
  • 10 November, 2026: Submission deadline for conference contributions – Short Papers*, start of peer review
  • 14 January, 2027: Conference early registration opens
  • 3 March, 2027: Review results will be announced
  • 4 March, 2027: Submission of Full-length Papers (and revised Short Papers) opens
  • 3 May, 2027: Submission deadline for revised papers (incl. Full-length Papers)
  • 3 May, 2027: Early bird registration ends
  • 16 June, 2027: Open access fees payment deadline

* The “Short Paper” was previously known as an “Extended Abstract”; the CIE has slightly adapted the process and format of the first submission in preparation for Scopus indexing. The first submission “Short Paper” now includes an 150-word abstract plus a short summary of your work.
