The Call for Contributions for the CIE 2027 Scientific Conference is now published, and the submission system is open.
The Scientific Conference will take place in Nanjing, China, from 12 to 14 July 2027, as part of the 31st Quadrennial Session of the CIE (9–17 July 2027). The conference will bring together the international light and lighting community for scientific exchange and collaboration across the full scope of the CIE’s work.
Authors are invited to submit their Short Papers by 10 November 2026. The Scientific Conference welcomes contributions across the full scope of CIE’s work in light and lighting, including vision and colour, physical measurement of light and radiation, interior environment and lighting design, transportation and exterior applications, photobiology and photochemistry, and image technology, as well as related and emerging fields. All final accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings of the CIE (International Commission on Illumination), which will be submitted to Scopus for indexing. Full-Length Papers are also eligible for CIE Awards, open-access publication and publication as individual papers with separate DOIs.
With CIE 2027 taking place in China, participants will have a valuable opportunity to connect with China’s extensive research and innovation community. Nanjing, the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties, combines a rich historical heritage with a vibrant academic, scientific and technological environment, providing an excellent setting for international scientific exchange and collaboration.
The scientific programme will feature keynote lectures by Prof Xin Zhang, The Luminous Environment of Traditional Chinese Architecture and Urban Lighting-Related Topics; Dr Annette Koo, The Candela and the International System of Units (SI) – Their Shared History and What Lies Ahead; and Prof Roland Fleming, Material Perception. The programme will also include three parallel tracks of scientific sessions, a poster exhibition with dedicated programme slots, and workshops from all six CIE Scientific Divisions, as well as from the Standing Panel on Education.
