The CIE is pleased to announce that Prof. Xin Zhang, Professor at the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, will deliver a keynote lecture at the 31st Quadrennial Session of the CIE, taking place in Nanjing, China.
His lecture, “The Luminous Environment of Traditional Chinese Architecture and Urban Lighting-Related Topics”, will bring an important Chinese architectural perspective to the CIE 2027 programme. It will address the role of luminous environments in architecture and cities, linking traditional Chinese architectural heritage with current urban lighting-related topics.
Prof. Zhang’s research focuses on luminous environments, including daylighting and artificial lighting, with particular expertise in human factors, non-visual effects of daylighting, and the luminous environment of traditional Chinese architecture. He has contributed to more than 100 publications and over 26 research projects, with outputs applied in both industry and architectural practice.
The keynote is closely connected to the work of CIE Division 3: Interior Environment and Lighting Design, reflecting key themes such as daylighting, artificial lighting, human factors, lighting design methodology, and the relationship between light and architectural space.
