The CIE Session 2027 is dedicated to supporting the future leaders of light and lighting science. Recognizing the importance of young researchers, CIE offers several initiatives to encourage their participation and development. These opportunities aim to help Master’s and PhD students benefit from the experience and knowledge within the CIE community.
Benefits for Young Researchers:
- Reduced Registration Fees: Special discounted rates are available for students to enhance accessibility.
- Best Student Paper Award: Open exclusively to students who are first authors of their papers and present their research at the conference.
- Student Social Event: A dedicated social event for students and CIE newcomers to meet with CIE leadership to engage in discussions, share experiences, and build lasting connections in a relaxed and informal setting.

- Light & Design Student Challenge: The challenge is open to undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students and welcomes interdisciplinary participation. Students are invited to use generative AI to create visual interpretations of themes related to light and lighting, such as human experience and well-being, ecosystems, colour and perception, AI-enabled lighting design, and cross-cultural narratives. Submissions will include a short project description, the selected theme, and a 1–3-minute presentation video. Further details to be confirmed at a later stage.
